As long as you are living and breathing and if you’re reading this, that’s you, then you have purpose. God didn’t place you here accidentally. He wired you with intention, with calling, and yes… with dreams.
Dreams aren’t random. They’re woven into us like strands of DNA, stitched into our hearts from childhood. Whether we once imagined becoming a firefighter, a veterinarian, or even Batman, the ability to dream is God-designed. He delights in giving us the desires of our hearts, and He takes pleasure in our joy.
But just as each of us is unique, so are our dreams. Our personality, background, and current circumstances shape how we see the world and how we dream within it.
And that leads to a question we all eventually face:
“Is this a dream I can let go of? Or is this something that keeps resurfacing no matter how far I run?”
A God-given dream doesn’t die. It lingers. It nudges. It pulls. And if it’s truly yours, it requires devotion, just like a marriage, a child, or any sacred responsibility.
When Dreams Go Unrecognized
There are two main reasons people never reach their dreams:
They don’t recognize the dream or stop long enough to listen.
They never create the steps or path that leads to the dream.
A dream without clarity remains a wish. A dream without steps remains a fantasy.
That’s why Scripture tells us:
“Write the vision; make it plain…” (Habakkuk 2:2, NIV)
Write your dreams down. Make the path clear. Your dream will not become reality by sitting back and daydreaming. It requires action.
Dreams Require Action
Growing up, we were told we could be anything. But wanting something isn’t enough. Dreams require work, real, intentional, measurable work.
I work in Corporate America, where yearly goals are built using STEP and SMART processes. We don’t just write the goal, we map the steps, define the metrics, and outline the path. Dreams in our personal lives are no different.
A dream becomes reachable when it becomes structured.
Scripture for the Dreamers
No encouragement is complete without the Word. So here is what I pray over you:
“May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.” (Psalm 20:4, NLT)
But Scripture also gives us our part:
We Must Do
Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you your heart’s desires. (Psalm 37:4)
Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. (Proverbs 16:3)
We Must Remember
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. (Proverbs 16:9)
Seek first the Kingdom, and He will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33)
Pray with faith, and you will receive. (Matthew 21:22)
A Story of Determination
I once read about a man who dreamed of becoming an attorney. But he grew up in poverty in south Mississippi, and by all appearances, that dream seemed impossible.
Yet his mother taught him to shoot for the stars.
Dreams become reality when you work the plan.
He didn’t reach his goal by wishing. He reached it by planning, grinding, sacrificing, and refusing to quit. There’s no way to measure the blood, sweat, and tears it took, but one thing is certain:
He worked it.
And once he reached the dream, he kept working to maintain it.
Scripture for the Climb
Reaching your dream won’t always be easy. So here are verses to carry with you:
Keep Focus — Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord. (Colossians 3:23)
Talk is Cheap — Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty. (Proverbs 14:23)
Pray & Be Thankful — Never stop praying… be thankful in all circumstances. (1 Thessalonians 5:17–18)
Don’t Complain — Do everything without complaining… shine like bright lights. (Philippians 2:14–15)
Do the Grunt Work — Work with your hands… so unbelievers will respect the way you live. (1 Thessalonians 4:11–12)
So I Leave You With This
A DREAM written down with a date becomes a GOAL. A GOAL broken down into steps becomes a PLAN. A PLAN backed by ACTION becomes REALITY.
So don’t wait until you reach your goal to be proud of yourself.
Be proud of every step you take toward it.
